DARWIN PLUS in Baikal mile race 2023

In March 2019, on the eastern shore of Lake Baikal, in the extreme conditions of Siberia, the first and only Baikal Mile Festival of Speed was held, which has now become an annual event. It is precisely because of the harsh natural conditions that the event is unique in the history of auto and motor sports. The main idea is to set speed records on all possible types of equipment on the ice cover of the deepest lake on the planet.

27 riders took part in the first Baikal Mile 2019. In 2022, more than 90 pilots participated in the IV International Festival of Speed "Baikal Mile".

The Baikal Mile is, first of all, an engineering competition that opens the way for any inventions, regardless of the number of wheels or engines. Everyone has been on the ice of Lake Baikal - from a skier with a record of 197 km/h to a jet car that accelerates up to 283.766 km/h in a mile.

The festival of speed "Baikal Mile" unites all lovers of speed and innovative technical solutions, travelers and enthusiasts. On the same starting line, there are world-famous athletes and “homemade” ones who have assembled their vehicle “on their knees”.

Once upon a time, the idea to arrange a domestic Festival of Speed, similar in spirit to the legendary Bonneville, seemed impossible. Today, athletes and enthusiasts begin to prepare for the Baikal Mile a year in advance, and the Festival itself was supplemented by the Grand Tour Baikal Mile Grand Tour, during which its participants travel for 14 days along a specially designed route, completing tasks along the way and discovering Russia anew - for themselves and their viewers.

The most incredible member of the Mile was the PADONKOV 100YAK unit. Having mounted a Yak-40 jet engine on the remains of the AUDI80 body, these very extravagant gentlemen created a rocket with a capacity of 3500 hp, 1.5 tons of thrust and dispersed it to a speed of 283.7 km / h on ice, becoming the champions of the Baikal Mile in the absolute. Lev Goryaev, the team leader, secretly admitted that the plan was 300 km/h, but now there is something to strive for in 2023.
